Heat Pump Rebates

  • Ground Source Heat Pump - $150-750/ton

A ground source heat pump is highly efficient, utilizing stable ground temperatures to heat and cool spaces. By transferring heat between the earth and a building, it can achieve high energy efficiency ratios (EERs) and coefficient of performance (COP) ratings, resulting in significant energy savings and reduced environmental impact.

    REBATE AMOUNT

    $750/ton for new intallation

    $150/ton for replacement unit

    ELIGIBLE MEMBERS

Residential members in good standing with the cooperative are eligible for rebates.

Rebates are limited to eligible services (homes, lake homes, shops, barns, etc.) that purchase more than 6,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity from the Cooperative on an annual basis.

    ELIGIBLE HEAT PUMP EQUIPMENT

Equipment must be installed by a certified dealer.

Electric backup heat MUST be separated from the ground source unit with a separate breaker.

Ground source systems must be installed with specific Delta-T calculations supported by a Manual J "Residential Load Calculation" publics by the Air Conditioning Contractors of America as follows: North of the Missouri River = 80; South of the Missouri River = 70. Ask your HVAC contractor to verify that these requirements are met.

The cooperative many inspect the facility to determine if R-38 insulation is present in the ceiling and R-13 in the walls.

Heat pumps that receive rebates may be subject to cooperative load control programs. The participant agrees to allow the cooperative to control the heating and cooling now or in the future.

Rebates are limited to a maximum of 50 tons commercial and 10 tons residential per facility.

  • Air Source Heat Pump Rebate - $150/ton

An air source heat pump works by extracting heat from the outside air, even in cold temperatures, and transferring it indoors through a refrigeration cycle. It uses a compressor to increase the temperature of the extracted heat, which is then used for space heating.

In addition to extracting heat from the outside air, an air source heat pump may incorporate electric back-up heating elements. These elements provide supplementary heat during extremely cold weather when the pump's efficiency decreases. This ensures consistent heating output and comfort regardless of outdoor temperatures, but can lead to a higher demnd (kW).

    ELIGIBLE HEAT PUMP EQUIPMENT

Equipment must be installed by a certified dealer and meet the ENERGY STAR +2 minimum rating of 17.2 SEER2.

Heat pumps that receive rebates may be subject to cooperative load control programs. The participant agreesto allow the cooperative to control their heating and cooling equipment now or in the future.

Please be aware that heat pumps equipped with heat strips may result in increased kilowatt (kW) consumption under certain conditions. Heat strips are auxiliary electric heating elements used to supplement heating capacity during very cold weather or when the primary heat pump function is insufficient. While effective in providing additional heat, especially during extreme temperatures, these strips can significantly increase electricity usage compared to the heat pump's standard operation. It is advisable to monitor and regulate the use of heat strips to optimize energy efficiency and minimize operating costs. Consult your HVAC technician or energy provider for guidance on maximizing the efficiency of your heat pump system and managing kW consumption effectively.

Please be aware that using an electric vehicle (EV) Level 2 charger can result in significant demand (kW) consumption. These chargers draw substantial power from the electrical grid to efficiently recharge EV batteries. As a result, charging your EV may lead to higher overall electricity usage and costs. To manage electricity expenses effectively, consider optimizing your charging practices. This can include scheduling charging sessions during times when your household or business typically uses less electricity. Additionally, be mindful of simultaneous high-demand activities that may further increase kW consumption, such as operating large appliances. Consulting with a qualified electrician or energy advisor can provide guidance on optimizing your charging routine and reducing overall electricity consumption.
